1. How big is a yard of material?

A cubic yard is 27 cubic feet, if it was neatly packed in a box it would be 3' x 3' x 3'.

2. How big is the bucket on your loader?

Our loader bucket is a 1/2 yard.

3. How much material can I carry in my truck?

A 1/2 ton truck or a small truck can carry a 1/2 cubic yard of most rock or sand but they can easily carry a yard of bark. Most 3/4 ton trucks can carry 1 yard of rock or sand and depending on the size of the bed 1 1/2 to 2 cubic yards of bark.

4. How do I figure out how much material I need?

A cubic yard covers 100 sq. Ft. at 3" deep. This estimate works for material 1 1/2 or smaller. The formula we use to estimate is square footage (length x width) divided by 27. Take that answer and divide it by 12, then multiply it by your depth in inches. This will tell you how many yards you need…or go directly to our Coverage Chart.

5. Can your truck fit through my gate?

Our delivery trucks need a minimum of 10' width to back through.

6. I just need a small amount of rock to finish a project, how small amount can I buy?

The smallest amount of material we can scoop with our loader is 1/4 cubic yard. But we do sell all of our products down to the shovelful. A 5-gallon bucket holds the equivalent of 6 shovelfuls and our yardman will gladly fill your container for you and load it back into your vehicle.

7. How do I figure out the square footage of an odd shaped area?

It is easiest to try to break the areas into rectangles or triangles but if you're are stumped just bring in a diagram of the area and our helpful staff will figure it our for you.

8. How do I decide which material to use for my project?

Choosing landscape materials is a little like picking paint colors…what do you want to look at day after day. Of course there are certain materials better suited for some applications. Pea Gravel would not be a go choice for an area that gets a lot of water running through it, being so small it would tend to wash away. Are you walking on the area or parking on it? Crushed rock like 3/4 Gravel or Navajo will compact and stay put, great for parking areas.
